Nineteen wipe packs, six diaper sizes, and the per-sheet arithmetic on every one

Labels

What the words on the front of the pack mean

Fragrance free, sensitive, quilted, flushable. Four phrases that look like grades and are really just descriptions.

They describe, they do not rank

Pack fronts read like a ladder, with plain at the bottom and sensitive somewhere near the top. They are not a ladder. Each phrase describes one property of what is in the tub, and the lines exist side by side because different households want different things.

This page reports what is printed on the packaging and nothing beyond it. We do not make any of this, we cannot test it, and any claim about what a product will do for a particular baby belongs to the manufacturer’s own labeling, not to a catalogue page.

The four you will meet most

Fragrance free means no added scent. It is the plainest option and usually among the cheapest per sheet, because it is the base of the range rather than a premium on top of it.

Quilted describes the texture of the sheet, a raised pattern rather than a flat one. Flushable describes how the sheet is built to behave in water, and it comes with its own caveats worth reading separately. Scent names such as cucumber, fresh, shea butter and melonberry tell you which line you are holding and very little else.

Where to actually look

The two numbers that decide most purchases are the sheet count and the fluid ounces, and both are printed small. On tubs and bottles the ounce figure is the one to compare, because a 4 ounce and a 13 ounce container of the same thing look nearly identical on a shelf and photograph identically online.

If you are ordering rather than standing in an aisle, the count and the ounces in the listing title are doing the work the pack front would normally do.

Arithmetic

What a wipe actually costs

Nineteen packs, one brand, and a four-fold spread in the price of a single sheet. Here is where the difference hides.

Sizing

Diaper sizes go by weight, not by age

The number on the box maps to pounds. Everything else, including your baby’s birthday, is a rough guess at best.

Plumbing

Flushable wipes and what your pipes think

Flushable is a claim about the sheet. It is not a promise about your drains, and the two get confused constantly.
